How does WattPayoff find the cheapest PG&E rate plan for my home?

WattPayoff takes your actual hourly electricity usage from PG&E, with your permission, and calculates what your most recent 365 days would have cost on each currently offered PG&E residential rate plan. It shows the costs side by side, marks the lowest, and repeats the calculation every month, notifying you of the result.

How do I know if I'm on the best PG&E rate plan for my home?

Compare what your own past year of usage would have cost on each plan you can use. The cheapest plan depends on when you use electricity, how much, your season and your equipment, so a general rule ("time-of-use is always cheaper", "EV owners should be on EV2-A") is often wrong for a particular home.

  • Your hours matter: most time-of-use plans charge most from 4 to 9 pm.
  • Your total matters: tiered and baseline credits reward lower use.
  • Your equipment matters: some plans require an EV, battery or heat pump.
  • Your history matters: a full year captures both summer and winter prices.

What is PG&E Share My Data, and how does the app use it?

Share My Data is PG&E's program for sending your energy data to a company you choose. You authorize the app from your PG&E account, choosing what to share and for how long, and you can change or end that permission there at any time.

Ndili Technologies, Inc. receives PG&E customer data through PG&E's Share My Data program, only with each customer's authorization. Ndili Technologies is independent and is not affiliated with or sponsored by PG&E.

  • What PG&E can share: account and billing information, and hourly interval usage for residential customers, with up to 48 months of history.
  • What the app asks for: four years of your Share My Data meter and billing data. PG&E supplies it daily, usually one or two days behind.
  • How to stop sharing: sign in to your PG&E account, open Share My Data on your dashboard (the link reads Authorize third party companies), find the company under Current Authorizations, and select the X icon to stop sharing. The pencil icon changes what is shared or for how long. PG&E says you can end the authorization instantly, at any time. Stopping sharing does not cancel your app subscription, which you manage in your Apple or Google Play account.

What happens every month?

Each month the app looks back at your last 365 days of actual usage (or all the history available, if less) and calculates the cost on every currently offered PG&E residential rate plan, even when you don't open it. If another plan would have cost less, it notifies you with the estimated difference. If your current plan was already the cheapest, it tells you that too. You can also run a comparison whenever you want.

Which PG&E rate plans does it compare?

The six current PG&E residential electric plans: E-1 (tiered), E-TOU-C, E-TOU-D, E-ELEC, EV2-A and EV-B, with the Base Services Charge (since March 2026) and part-peak periods included.

  • Recommendations: the app leaves EV-B out of its recommendations, because EV-B needs a second meter.
  • Eligibility: the app doesn't check whether your household qualifies for EV2-A or E-ELEC, which have equipment requirements. Confirm your eligibility with PG&E before switching.
  • Older plans: for a past date range, it also prices the schedules that were active then, such as E-6, when your data goes back that far.
  • Discounts: Medical Baseline, CARE and FERA are included when you turn them on in the app's My Account (CARE and FERA never on EV-B); community choice generation is not.

What do I need to get started?

PG&E electric service, access to your PG&E online account, and an iPhone, iPad, Mac (Apple silicon), Apple Vision or Android device.

Frequently asked questions about how it works

Does the app use my real usage or an estimate?

Your real usage. The comparison uses the hourly interval data from your PG&E smart meter, not a typical household profile.

How far back does the comparison look?

The last 365 days. A full year includes both summer (June to September) and winter (October to May) prices on most PG&E plans. You can also choose any other date range or a single billing cycle.

What if I've had my account for less than a year?

The app uses all the history available and compares plans on that, up to 365 days. With less than a year, the result may miss a season's prices.

Does a result mean I will save that much next year?

No. Rate comparisons show what different plans would have cost for past usage. Rate eligibility and future savings may vary.
